Are you sad? Don’t be sad!

You must put your trust on Allah (سبحانه و تعالی) and have good hope on Him, for indeed Allah is for His salves as His slave thinks of him: أنا عند ظن عبدي بي . Never give up hope or despair from the mercy of Allah (سبحانه و تعالی) but rather put your trust on the Ever-Living, the Self-Subsisting, the most Merciful, and ask Allah (سبحانه و تعالی) to provide you with assistance, succeed you and keep you steadfast. And to open the doors of relief for you.

Once the Prophet (صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم) entered the Masjid and saw Abu Umaamah (رضی الله عنه). He said, "O Abu Umaamah, why are you sitting in the Masjid when its not prayer time?" He replied, "O messenger of Allah, sorrows and debts have overcome me." So the Prophet (صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم) said, "shall I not teach you some words, if you say them Allah will remove your sadness and settle your debits?" He said, "Of course, O Messenger of Allah." the Prophet (صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم) said, then say:

اللهم إني أعوذ بك من الهم والحزن والعجز والكسل وأعوذ بك من الجبن والبخل وأعوذ بك من غلبة الدين وقهر الرجال (رواه البخاري)

.. O Allah, I take refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, weakness and laziness, miserliness and cowardliness, the burden of debts and being over powered by men.

These are beautiful, blessed words, and prayer that are answered by the will of Allah Almighty.

Sad and alone

The purpose of trails is so that the slave shows his pain and grief, and calls ONLY to Allah.

There no salve of Allah (سبحانه و تعالی) who says these words, believing in them and understanding their meanings, except that Allah will make a relief and a way out. Abu Umaamah (رضی الله عنه) said, "I recited those words and Allah relieved my anxieties and settled my debts."

"O Allah I seek refuge in you from al-hamm." Al-hamm is the sadness caused by something that is like a weight on mind from what may occur (in the near or far future). And Al-hazan is the sadness caused by something that has already happened. So both cases were addressed in this dua.

Your sadness for what has happened in the past and what may happen in the future. And he commanded you to seek refuge in Allah. "Allah humma" as in "Ya Allah!" -- "I seek refuge in you from al-hamm." Because human was created weak, and he is surrounded with concerns of life. He does not overcome a worry, except he falls into another one. And he is not saved with hardship except he is encompassed with another.

Al-Balad [90:4]

.. Verily we have created humans into toil and struggle. But no one can dispel the worries and remove the sorrows except the Ever-Living, Self Subsisting, the whom no slumber of sleep can seize.

My brother in Islam, Allah wants good for you when he tests you. And gives you the patience to see through the calamity. Allah wants good for you, when he tests you. And your heart turns to your lord. Allah wants good for you if you direct your attention to Allah.  And so you address Him with your sorrows and complain to Him only of your grief.  Its as though you're saying: "O Allah, to whom do You leave me? To a weak person who receives me with hostility? Or to an enemy You have given power over me.." And its as if you're saying, "O Allah, the One Who responds to the distressed when he calls Him!" To You I transit my complaints, and I seek refuge in you O who is honored and exalted. Its as though you're saying, "O Allah, the One who cleared the harm from Ayoub (علیہ السلام) and removed the worries from Younis (علیہ السلام) and you cleared the harm from your slaves and you removed their hardships, remove my hardship and clear my grief, and don't make me your most miserable slave. O Allah, do not deprive me of the best which is with you, because of the evil with me."

Increase in your Dua, pleed and beseech Him. For He is, by Allah, more merciful to you than you are to yourself! And if you send out these words from a heart that believes in Allah, has certainty in Allah, then Allah will not disappoint you. If the slave supplicates and adheres to his Lord and seeks Him, and he is sincere in his dua, the doors of heaves will open up for him. If he asks Allah sincerely from his heart, and the worries have encompassed his body from illness in his body, or disease or pain, and the doctors diagnosed his illness, and the hardships overwhelmed him.. or the hardship in his family has overtaken him. So he comes to a point, where he used to laugh, but now his worries make him cry. And his grief makes him cry and upsets him.. if a slave reaches this point and state, and he directs his worship only to the Most Exalted, the most Great, sincerely and with certainty, then understand this: this is the real purpose of trials. The purpose of trials is that you flee from Allah, to Allah (سبحانه و تعالی)! The purpose of trails is so that the slave shows his pain and grief, and calls ONLY to Allah. And so he turns to Allah (سبحانه و تعالی), so he remembers the greatness of Allah. If the debts are too great, remember, that Allah is the One Who is Greater than the debts and greater than everything.

And if the concerns of your sons, daughters, spouses or someone from your family overcome you, remember that Allah (سبحانه و تعالی) listens to you, He sees you, He is Forbearing, and He is Merciful.

So say: "Ya Allah, you know my situation, my weakness and my need. O Allah, to you I turn, and to you I complain. And from You I seek help, and I rely only on You. And I entrusted you with all my affairs, and I seek refuge with you and I believe in You and submit myself to You." If you say these words, the heaves will open up for you. And if you respond to trails with these calls, then you deserve to have your hardship cleared! And your responsibilities made easy.

Indeed, if Allah solves your problems, it will come to you from where you never expected. When the world constrains someone, for example if people let you down, and particularly if the loved ones and closed ones desert you and particularly when you were dependent on someone and they let you down, and if you put your hope in someone after Allah, and they don't come through.. Its at that point that you know that Allah wants you to turn to Him.

The happiest person is the one who turns his face towards Allah. The happiest person in the world is the one who submits his heart to Allah.

An-Nisa [4:125]

.. Who can be better in religion than the one who submits his whole self to Allah, and does good. Meaning that he is certain that relief is only from Allah.

If people try to humiliate you, then know that it is not them that honor or humiliate. And if people mock at you, when you need them the most, or when you ask them to assist you. Then know that they do not possess the power to benefit or harm even themselves! And they do not possess the power to give, take or restore life. And if hardship and troubles overwhelm you, from your spouse or from your family, or from your child or from your brother or from your sister or from those who are far from you or those closer to you.. if the harm and insults from the people become too great.. then know that you have a Lord that will not let you down. And you have a Lord who receives all complaints. And the Lord Who hears secrets, and that what is more hidden. And you have a Rabb that shows mercy and loves you, and loves when you call Him.. and when you turn to him and supplicate..

.. Who listens to the distressed when he calls on Him, and who relieves his sufferings, and makes you inheritors of the earth? is there an ilaah besides Allah?

Allah mentioned the hardships of Ayoub (علیہ السلام) and said:

وَأَيُّوبَ إِذْ نَادَى رَبَّهُ أَنِّي مَسَّنِيَ الضُّرُّ وَأَنتَ أَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِينَ Al-Anbiya [21:83]

.. and remember Ayoub, when he cried to his Lord, "Harm has afflicted me, but you are the most Merciful of those that are merciful." He called Him when his complaints, hardships and pains overwhelmed him, he called Allah with his names and attributes. "Harm has afflicted me" -- the state and issue. "Harm has afflicted me.. and you are the most Merciful of the merciful."

.. therefore We responded to him and took of what harm he had, and we gave him his family, and the like of them with them: a mercy from us.. and (this is a) a reminder to the worshipers.

Some scholars have said about "reminder to the worshipers" that it means that if you call onto Allah with certainty as Ayoub (علیہ السلام) did, you will receive the same outcome. This is something to remember at every trial, and at every hardship of your family and wealth and children. You may be living a bountiful life, secure in your home with good health and sustenance until Allah wills to trial you.. and so the troubles and calamity fall upon you.  And debts surround you from all sides. So after a bountiful life, you feel your life narrowing and in hardship. So the daughter complains, and the son complains and you find yourself in concerns and worries, you are faced with concerns and constrains of debts and sins (of not fulfilling). So the world narrows down on you, and only your certainty in Allah can widen it. Only your certainty that Allah is more merciful to you than yourself can remove your worries. If you are truthful to Allah, he will fulfill it.

When has he who stood at Allah's door been turned away? NEVER! When has he who has been truthful to Allah been disappointed? NEVER! We have not found Him except that He is Forbearing and Merciful. We haven't found Him except He is Generous and Great. He opens up the doors of relief from you where you expect and from where you don't expect.

There is no person who calls upon Allah with truthfulness in hardship except that Allah gives him one of the two: If Allah knows that it is better for the hardship to be relieved, He will relieve it immediately, and if Allah knows that it is better for the hardship to be prolonged, he will give him imaan and yaqeen and submission so that he finds the hardship a source of blessing and happiness.

Always have hope in Allah (سبحانه و تعالی)
